Emo Stuff. Nothing Feels Good: Punk Rock, Teenagers, And Goth.

Question: What exactly does it mean to be emo? and why are people so mean to them?

I don't know any but I still think it's rude for people to be so mean to them. I've seen it all over the internet, people just talking trash about them. Don't answer if your going to be immature and say something stupid or rude. Don't know, don't answer with something stupid. Simple as that. - _-

Sadly we live in a world where ignorance is said to be bliss. In reality ignorance is a pain in the a** because it shows a lack of intelligence and lowering of knowledge that ends up hurting, annoying, or angering those who do know. So in short, the only why to counter their ignorance is your knowledge. that why when confronted with their stupidity you can counter it with intelligence therefore not only empowering yourself, but giving knowledge to those who no know of which they speak. Beware though that some have already made it in their mind what it is and what it means and nothing you say or do, no matter how much truth and proof you show them, they are going to believe what they want to believe. You just have to accept that, move on and not let their stupidity upset you. Sadly people are always going to jump to conclusions about the proper way to be something, and if you do not follow those strict guidelines, then you could never be what you claim. When the truth is that there is not set right or wrong or any type of absolute truth concerning any particular (sub)culture. Everyone is unique and is going to behave differently. Period. All we can do is accept that. Anyway, you cannot stop others from judging all you can do is laugh at their ignorance because they do not know you half as well as you know yourself, therefore their stupidity is outstanding for saying something that is false and misleading. In the end, just worry about yourself and how you judge others. Give others respect, even when they do not deserve it. Try your damnest not to judge. (and no I am not emo, I am Goth, but I like to know about those people for whom I am mistaken as by ignorant people) The term "Emo " is used as counterculture; it is an abreviation of the word "emotional ". Emo it's defining not only an attitude, but also a fashion that are coming from emocore (emo music). Emocore is a combination between hardcore and punk music which was very popular in Washington DC in the late 80's. The emo culture continued to develop between '90 and '00, reaching the height of its popularity today. Emo kids are sad creatures of the dark. They are characterized by their dress sense and also how in touch they are with certain emotions (i.e. the negative ones). Typically emos wear lots of black and will most likely have dyed hair (mainly black or sometimes colourful streaks) and write music, lyrics, or poems about the trials and tribulations of their torturous lives. Basically emos are sort of like goths...but with a lot less darkness and a lot more Harry Potter. Spotting an emo kid online is very easy as most have their username surrounded by Xs like so: xXxTinySadBrokenKittyxXx. Usually this would indicate that the user is Straight Edge (abstains from drug and alcohol). However in the emo community, things have different meanings. Emo is not only a classification or a type of music it's also taken over the way one expresses themself by dressing. It includes the tighter fiting pants to the dyed-black or dark hair with it covering your face. The longer hair in front with the spikes in the back is also a more Emo- or emotional look to dressing. Emo meaning being comfortable with oneself. Its a more direct way of altering the feelings one has without words, just emotion. Some say music is not a type of music. That it is more of a fashion and a way of feeling, hence the emotional. Just recently people have been considering emo to be a genre or music.. Taking back Sunday is one of the many bands people consider to be emo. Not all emo people are cry babies or sucidial. Many emo kids come from families which are having serious issues whether it being money issues or what have you In recent years the media has linked the Emo scene closely with issues of cutting and self-harm, but in reality when you step back and look self-harming objectively, there is no medical or cultural link that connects it to any one social group. Self-harming stems from some serious mental illnesses, namely borderline personality disorder, and is also carried out by people who are suffering, or who have suffered from significant trauma or emotional upset. When you look at the medical reasons behind cutting and self-harming, it is impossible to suggest it affects any one group of individuals, and so claiming that somehow a fundamental part of the Emo culture is very misleading. (me again) so you see, emos are not prone to cutting. that is a lie set on my lack of truth, i am sure media did help the situation. Emos hate it when people refer to them as cutters. That is akin to mocking one's faith, so to speak. you are who you are, and others should learn about the person or people in question before trying to pass judgement on them. the best cure is to not pass judgement at all. Emo is basically just short of emotional. They are categorized as being whiny cutters that are always crying. It's a stereotype just like cheerleaders are categorized as being slutty bitches. None of it is really true, you have exceptions but that comes with every stereotype. Many people are mean to them because they are just ignorant and think it's funny to make fun of people.

Uhmmm.. Emo refers to being emotional And Alot of people don't like them because they're different, I personally don't know any emo kids, but I've seen them, and thier just little goth posers... they cut themselves and hate life, thus, people make fun of them.. oh yeah, many of the emo guys and girls are bisexual, and the guys tend to look like girls. :P

I am an emo kid, and personally i haven't self harmed in a long time. Emo is short for emotional and originally was a genre of music. It is kind of like punk, where people who listed to that kind of music get labeled as it. Emo kids normally prefer to wear different clothes, listen to different music, and often do have social or depression problems. As a whole, the human race likes to ostracize individuals that are different from themselves. Everyone catches a lot of meanness over the internet. Actually, I have been beaten because of my choices of wearing make-up. More than once. No one at my school talks to me, and most don't even like to be around me. Although, that really doesn't bother me too much.

What does it mean to be Emo? Who knows. They say its short for EMOtional blah blah deprssing punk music, blah blah. Now they say its cutting and being depressing yourself. I'll admit to being depressed and cutting, not because I'm Emo, its because I' just...depressed. To me it means being in touch with your sensitive side and seing the more pessimistic side of life. And badass hair, Niow people don't like us because people don't like people who disagree with their life veiw in general. If someone likes life and we hate life than they hate us.

I am emo and alot of people say it means emotional and that you cut yourself...i consider it more as a state of mind and yes i admit to cutting myself and i dont regret it...emo is not a stereo type but peopple abusse it so much it has become one...i dont know why people pick on us i think it is because we are different than them we wear different clothes and we hate life and they like life so they decide to hate us because we are different than them.....

Emo is short for emotional. They tend to wear dark clothes, tight jeans, long bangs which may cover one or both eyes, listen to Emo music. They may wear studded belts, dye their hair black, wear canvas sneakers, or wear thick horn-rimmed glasses. They may come across as depressed and may be into self-injury (cutting), but not necessarily. People are mean to them either because they see them as whiny and melodramatic, or they see them as posers, or they see them as victims of a horrible fad. Some criticize them for being into individuality through conformity. And some people just dislike anyone who is different or steps outside the mainstream box.
