How to stop people calling me an emo?!?

Question: How to stop people calling me an emo?!?

(Posted by: beckeeey on 2010-02-05 16:26:56)

Loads of chavs and ignorant people call me an emo and its really getting on my nerves! just because i like a certain type of music and like to dress a little differently they assume im emo, when im just me! how can i get them to stop? its actually p*****g me off soo much! eurgh, i hate it! p.s: im not going to change the way i dress, my clothes reflect me so im not going to change to make the chavs like me :/

Stop dressing emo and start dressing indie. Chavs don't seem to hate indie kids as much as goths or emos

Most people fit into a "category " of some sort... EG: Posh Chav Street Emo Punk Nerd most people can be immediatly classified by dress sense, then by personality (which is basically called stereotyping). Obviously (as in your case) people can be misclassified. From Wiki: Stereotypes are standardized and simplified conceptions of groups, based on some prior assumptions. The point i am making is that you must resemble the emo "category " in some ways (in this case it is dress sense and taste of music) so to put it simply: you look and behave like an emo. My suggested solution: The first thing that people use to stereotype is appearance - dont wana be called an emo - dont dress like one! secondly, music taste is difficult to change but can be excused if you at the very least dont look like an emo. The other option is to punch anyone in the face that says it to you - thus causing a chain reaction of fear that causes everyone who witnessed the event to avoid bringing up the subject. Personally, i would choose the latter.

It is natural and common for emo's to deny that they are. goths used to be exactly the same its part of the subculture understand yourself and the best peice of advice for you at this moment is to try being an individual

My friend goes through the exact same thing as you. she likes that certain type of music and dresses like an emo,, but her personality is completely different! she's usually very funny, chatty, and loves to laugh. her older brother calls her emo, and so do lots of other people, and it really p*sses her off too. i'm usually there when her older brother calls her emo, and she usually replies, "I'm NOT f*cking emo! " and loses her temper sometimes. i but from where i'm standing, i can see he only does it to wind her up. ignore them, and don't reply, and eventually they'll stop. yeah, sure, sometimes even i only call her emo to see her reaction!

Dress normally or you will forever be teased for being Emo. If your clothes really DO reflect you, then you really are an Emo.
