Emo Stuff. Nothing Feels Good: Punk Rock, Teenagers, And Goth.

Question: Am i emo? tell me what you think?

All my friends call me Emo and I hate it. I hate being labeled just beacause I dont like what the majority of people like in my nigheborhood. I've suffered from deppression, social anxiety disorder, hypoglycimia, and an eating disorder. Ive thought about suicide but i would never actually do it beacause I love life too much. I've never cut my wrists or any other part of my body and I never will. I think its stupid. how is inflicting pain on yourself going to make your situation better. anyway. I dont think im emo. I'm just dont have the greatest luck. what do you think? *Im african american *Fave colors are hot pink and black (have been since I was 5) *Love rock music *I always look sad *wear black clothes eyeliner etc.

No. based on your post, i don't think your emo. You appear to be genuinelly depressed and who you are. However, for me to really be able to tell if you are emo or not, i'd have to know how you act. do you tell people all the time you are depressed, are you always like "i'm sad " vocally to people? etc.. etc.. i.e. actively looking for attention through pity. If you are, then i'd say you are emo. But, at this point and based on what you've written,no. Especially, you mentioning you hate being called emo, strengthens the idea you are not. Also, the fact you will never cut your wrists (..or at least "make pretend " that you do a la emos) Also, you actually mention suicide and that although depressed, you don't consider it. I doubt "emos " actually think of a term such as "suicide " as their depression is all just an act in the first place. You know, life has it's ups and downs- but you're realistic and know things will change and get better etc.. Emos on the otherhand will refuse to see things positively and are determined to think life sucks, no matter how good the really have it.

People can probably label you emo based on the description you gave, but it doesnt mean you are. Make up labels for your friends and turn it into a game. You can be the “emo“ one, another one can be the “slutty“ one, another one can be the “nerdy“ one, etc. Eventually theyll get tired of it and will probably stop calling you emo.

Emo is just a stereotype, and if you know that stereotype consists of people who wear black clothes and eyeliner and are usually into rock and look "sad " all the time, then why are you asking this? i'm assuming you're in middle school
